Whatsta say about our bold gyspy woman? Strong, brave, outspoken, tough, sacrastistic, witty, streetsmart, beautiful, and quite the talent in the dancing department. So what makes her stand out? What makes our raven haired beauty unique? Does she brake any barriers? Nothing huge. Belle already broke the prince charming stereotype. Jasmine already yearned the outspoken/independent woman award. What does that leave us with?
So she sizes up to ever gal in the disney universe, there is still a kick that no one else holds. Is it her presence? Her bravery? Her skill? Her love? Her devotion? No. She has them all, but thats not what makes Esmerelda a fave. She obtained something no other heroine did before, or after, her. Esmerelda holds true to the adjective: FEARLESS. Death or marriage to the Devil himself? :SPIT: Til Death Do Them Part. SILENCE! JUSTICE! And despite all the courage she is still humble: I ask for nothing. I can get by. But I know so many, less lucky than I. She is also the only female to pull through as a great character in such a dark movie. Hunchback is not one of my favorites and not a high peak of Disney's but, Esmerelda manages to be one of the most beloved Disney gals of all time. Why you might ask? Fearless, Bold, Determined and Strength. And behind all of this, she is tender and has a soft spot for the less fortunate. What else can you ask of a person?
My only disappointment: Hunchback of Notre Dame gets you so excited for her to love Quasi. The song A Guy Like You really got his hopes up. I fastforward through it now, knowing she does not love him back makes me cry. They needed to make it more obvious that they weren't ment to be or that it is not because of his physical appearance that she loves Pheobus - even if Quasi was Brad Pitt I think Esmerelda would have choosen Pheobus. He is her One. I know that many people felt the same way, one of the reasons for Hunchback II but all the same - they should have fixed it in the first movie. But thats just me.
Of course, I don't blame my disappointment on Esmerelda. I know by her personality she would not choose Quasi over Pheobus just for looks. Its not her style. I just wish someone would give Quasi a clear reason. Esmerelda is one of my faves and this is not to downsize her at all. Are you an Esmerelda fan? Email me and let me know.
